Dedicated Server purchase

Yesterday I purchased my own dedicated server from 1&1. I’ve wanted one for years, and have been seriously considering one for the past few months due to the downtime experienced with M6.net, and the worsening support response times. It’s not good when you’ve got clients paying you and you have to email support and wait 2 days for a fix!

So I finally took the plunge, and have spent the day setting up my new server. It’s a 64bit machine, with 1gig of RAM. Plenty fast enough for what I need for now.

It’s a windows server, and came with with SQL Server 2005 and .net 2.0 installed. I’ve also added a PHP installation, MySQL and various admin tools. My hope is that I can eliminate my Dreamhost blog account as well as the M6 account. I’ve still got to install .net 3.5 and tidy some things up, but it’s certainly getting there.

I’ll be gradually moving sites over, and I’ll keep you posted on progress! Meanwhile, it needs a good name. Suggestions in the comments please!
